Encryption: Law Enforcement's Whipping Boy

Hey Everyone!

With all the news surrounding encryption lately (Mainly in the US and Europe), I feel like I should do my best to sway popular belief from the mainstream media. The truth is, the governments trying to break down the infrastructure are evil, and even though I can't speculate on their endgame plan, it's scary as hell.

I'm not going to get into the conspiracy theories, but there are a few things I should bring to your attention;

1. Security Now! Episode #534 | Encryption: Law Enforcement's Whipping Boy

So far, this episode of Steve Gibson's podcast is the best content I've found for explaining why what the governments are doing is so stupid. I suggest you listen to it and educate yourself. Link: http://ift.tt/1avjeTi

TL:DL - If the government forces backdoor into Encryption protocols, the criminals won't fucking use them.

2. Silk Road 2.0 Hack

An Extension of the above: Make a note that Silk Road 2.0 happened, and the government paid people to do their dirty work. Once again causing privacy and anonymity concerns throughout the deep/dark web. The podcast contains information extracted from the Tor blog, and the blog post can be found here: http://ift.tt/1MXBF9o

3. Exploiting Emotions About Paris to Blame Snowden, Distract from Actual Culprits Who Empowered ISIS

Also as an extension of the above, the recent Paris attacks are a fantastic example of the government trying to push their agenda through mainstream media. The podcast takes extracts from a blog post explaining this. It's an excellent read, and can be found here: http://ift.tt/1lpL8tM

I hope this information is received well, and as I work in the security industry, it's my hope that this can prompt some really great discussions. Perhaps a learning experience for all!

Take care out there! (And watch the skies)
