20 years of eBay: Contrary to popular belief, it was never created to sell Pez dispensers. The first sell was a broken laser pointer, simply as an experiment, and sold for $14.88. It was purchased by a guy who collected broken laser pointers. It was a definitive proof-of-concept for eBay.
