As recent news has shown, Google has an outsized impact on the web. Without a meaningful competitive engine (which right now is only Gecko) there will be a future when Google is able to dictate what web technology they want to succeed and fail, and they will use that to increase their profits, without much care for the rest of the web.
The only way to combat this is to switch to Firefox. Fortunately it's easy to download (www.getfirefox.com) and easy to import your data from Chrome. Download it, use it and the less we use Chrome the less power we give Google over the internet.
