So this happened about half a year ago, but I was not sure if this was worth posting so I will give it a go.
At that time I was doing an internship in a photo production company where they edit images for ad agencies. The tool used for the editing is most often a stylus combined with a digital drawing surface. So we had one of these for each person - including me.
So couple days before this fuck-up, my boss showed me that you could actually replace the pen's grip part from one where there are buttons to another with no buttons by unscrewing part of the stylus, pulling the rubber grip out and replacing it with a new one.
The day of the fuck up, we got a new employee, a photographer who also got his tablet and a pen without buttons so he was a bit confused at first where did the buttons go? So I, as a really smart intern go to this employee and be like "Don't ya worry m8, I got you." And I start twisting the end of the pen, the end comes off and as I started pulling the grip... I pulled out the circuitboard as well, and it got stuck halfway out. Fuck. It was not moving in any direction and was very fragile, so I did not want to apply any pressure.
So I have no idea how the circuitboard was placed in there in the first place, so I start thinking "How am I going to fix this without my boss noticing?" (NOTE: One of these pens costs around 120€) So this smart idea comes into my mind while the new employee is laughing at the incident: I will open another pen to see how the circuitboard and other parts are placed in there!
So I take this another pen, start twisting the end off... the end comes off and as I again start pulling the grip... I ripped the shit out of the circuitboard inside including all the buttons and wires. Fuck.
So there I am, smart as fuck intern with the new employee laughing his ass off, while I try to figure out a way of either fixing both of them or explaining this to my boss. Nice.
After 15 minutes of trying to quietly fix the pens, I fixed nothing. Ended up telling my boss who also laughed his ass off because he saw absolutely no way of breaking two pens with such an easy structure. He came and helped to get the board of the first pen back inside, the second one we lost as it was completely demolished. Half a year later, still working here!
TL;DR: While on an internship tried to show-off how good I am with gadgets to a new employee, broke an expensive pen used for digital art - tried fixing it by breaking another one of the same kind. Ended up fixing neither.
