In September, it became known that Facebook is also testing the login function in the face, and recently the social network has invited users to send intimate photos in Messenger to protect themselves from "revenge porn".

What if Facebook is spying on us

The very presence of facial recognition function suggests that:

Facebook can link faces in photos to user profiles.
Facebook has a database of people with established links between them and actively uses it for search, etc.
Facebook doesn't cost anything to recognize people in a photo right after it's uploaded, which is almost real-time.

Does this mean that Facebook knows everything about the people you're in contact with, even if you haven't friend them? Well, if you're in the photo.

And how the social network uses this information, no one can predict. Although it is proved that Facebook cooperates with the authorities and provides data on request.

How to cheat such systems?

It is necessary that the algorithm could not isolate your face oval in the picture, and also not allow the program to find the control points on which the pattern is built.

Is facial recognition on Facebook useful or dangerous? On the one hand, it is a profit: Facebook will tell if someone creates a fake profile with your photos, post bad pictures or dirt. On the other hand, if the photo is protected by privacy settings, no notification will come.

I wanted to see how internet looked like without Google...

Some devices and software go automatically to Google, for basic things like DNS, or checking if the connection is up. Some sites pull resources like fonts, styles and javascript code directly from Google. So I wondered, to what extent the internet is usable if Google is not available.

I wrote this script to create a black hole route for all Google-owned addresses, while logging the activity. Then I started browsing, checking what still worked and which software was trying to talk to Google for no evident reason, like Chrome, that tries to call home all the time while browsing, even in sites that have no content linked to them.

Without internet access to Google many sites become unusable, while others show no noticeable changes. If instead of rejecting packages they are silently dropped, even some of the working sites start to crawl (waiting for the resources). I think that would be the most likely post-effect of a world-wide Google blackout, for those devices and software that are able to cope with it.
