Tired of your ISP's data caps? Want to actually do something about it other than complaining on reddit? Here's the FCC's official website for consumer complaints.
If your complaint is specifically about a data cap you should categorize your complaint under "net neutrality and open internet". Have your account number on hand to make the process easier. Your ISP will be required by law to respond to your complaint.

Just like when Destiny first came out, negative Halo 5 posts are being downvoted to hell by "loyal" fans
This phenomenon confuses me. Like, if the game is so great, why are you here, downvoting criticism, instead of playing the game? I know when a great game comes out, I'm glued to it for at least a week. People getting bored of it are coming here to defend it because they want to feel their money wasn't wasted. But if two days in you find yourself on reddit more than the game, you wasted your money...
A friend of mine invited me over to try out Halo 5 today. I've been a fan since CE, but I wasn't really keeping up on 5 pre-release because I sold my Xbox One last year. When I came over ready to play some juicy co-op campaign I was devastated. After reading more about it, I understand that including split-screen simply wasn't possible once the engine was built. However, this does not excuse it's absence and it's probably the biggest disappointment in Halo history thus far.
Forge is also missing at launch, to be put in sometime in December (Is there no shame in shipping an incomplete game? They're not doing much to help the stigma) Since Forge is one of Halo's more unique draws, and 2 months can see a large player-base drop in a controversial/disappointing game (see Destiny, Halo 4, MCC), this is a huge letdown even if it is only temporary.
Classic game-modes like Juggernaut, Oddball, and Infection are missing. Granted most people don't even fuck with Juggernaut and VIP and such, but INFECTION? Come on, that's still one of the most popular gamemodes in Reach and 4. Really, 343? These game modes shouldn't be hard to put in, but I'm guessing development for this game was probably hellish considering it's shipping incomplete.
But most suprisingly to me of all the butchered features was the treatment of theater mode. Again, no campaign theater, which was to be expected I guess. I mean without friends to play campaign with, it's not really fun to watch again anyway. But NO SCREENSHOTS? What? How did this happen? Why even put theater in if you can't take screenshots? This blows my mind on so many levels. Also I didn't see a record button, so I'm not sure if you can make clips, but I have seen a few online so there's probably a way to do it, (albeit through some shitty tablet/app integration I bet) Little fuck-ups don't help either, like forcing the menu up anytime you rewind, starting the camera on another player, and the controls being blocky and over-sensitive. Overall, theater mode is a mess and my friend isn't happy about this considering he spends a lot of time in Halo games making clips and screenshots. So much for that.
I'm not here just to shit on the game. It's the best looking game on Xbox One at the moment, and Warzone mode is awesome. I'm just sick of recently released games being immune to criticism just cause people want to feel like their money wasn't wasted. If you are a Halo fan I don't understand how you can praise this game, let alone try to silence critique. Opinions are subjective, but we can't let companies release games where the list of features missing is bigger than the list of features included.
EDIT: Everyone do me a huge favor and downvote all my comments please. Thanks

'Codifying' Government Surveillance, Senate Passes CISA: "If President Obama does not veto this bill, he'll be showing that his administration never truly cared about the open Internet," rights group says
by johnmountain http://ift.tt/20a26fE
CISA passed. If we're going to make any progress on privacy, it's time to understand why.
CISA, a cybersecurity bill, passed in the senate on October 27. Why did it pass?
It's easy to say that it passed because senators are in the pocket of corporations. But then it feels like we're fighting against corporations, who have mountains of money! We can't win that fight. We have to understand why this bill was proposed, and address those corporate motivations.
We know the motivation. This article puts it plainly:
CISA, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (S. 754), will allow private companies to share cyber-threat data with the federal government, including personal user data, in an effort to prevent cyberattacks, such as those on the scale of Target, Home Depot, and Sony. (emphasis mine)
CISA passed because US companies are tired of being constantly attacked online. They are hemorrhaging money and/or losing the public's trust.
ref1 ref2 ref3 I could go on all day
US companies are lobbying for SOPA, CISA, and many other cybersecurity bills to protect their corporate interests, their trade secrets, their financial assets, and their public image. But cybersecurity experts agree that CISA won't protect these things! ref If we can work with US corporations to protect their interests in a way that doesn't compromise our privacy, we can win this.
Encryption and security standards have got to be a step in the right direction on both fronts. Education campaigns on can help spread the word. What measures can we take to demonstrate to US corporations that we want proper security just like they do?

Halo 5, my son, and the real effects of the loss of splitscreen
Just a bit of a rant here, and for that I apologize. I used to be much more of a gamer than I am today - nowadays a full time job, parenting, and a master's degree program keep me pretty busy. As a result, Halo 5 has been completely off my radar.
Not so for my 9 year old son. He talks about it all the time, and his birthday is coming up. My dad got him a gift card, and my son wanted to buy Halo. He's grown up playing splitscreen Halo with me. From a young age he wanted to be able to play games with me, and the Halo games' relatively low levels of gore, combined with the inclusion of splitscreen (couch) multiplayer, has meant that they've become a bit of a tradition in our house.
So today he and I went and picked up his Halo 5 order from Best Buy. We got it home, we installed it on our Xbox One, and we sat down to get a level of the campaign in before his bedtime.
Half an hour later, I've got a heartbroken little boy who doesn't understand why a game company decided to remove the ability for him to play with his dad. I got him started on the campaign solo, held him in my lap while he played, but his heart just wasn't in it. He asked if we could just go watch some Netflix together instead.
While he went and brushed his teeth, I googled this issue further, found loads of posts about it. Partly this is on me, sure. I probably should have read up on the game a bit more before buying it I guess. It sounds like they did it to ensure the game runs at 60 fps?
I hope the tradeoff ends up being worth it for them. They've lost a pretty dedicated little fan. My son is now asking if it would be possible to get his money back. I know he probably can't, so I'll end up just taking care of that for him. Anyone want to buy a barely used copy of Halo 5?

by theforceofmostlygood http://ift.tt/1MTccI9
We’ve had CISPA, SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, attacks on net-neutrality, and now CISA.
We’ve had some success at fending off some of these things in the past, but governments and/or large corporations just return with something new time after time.
It seems that they simply won’t stop until they get everything that they want.
My question is this: is there anything we can do about it? Any long-term fixes? Or are we fighting a losing battle?

TIFU by lending money.
Me and my friend met up one day in town and we had lunch together, when we were given our food my friend was only just short of the price so I gave him the £1 he needed. We went to this store called CEX with a small pile of money in my wallet just waiting to be spent on wonderful gizmos and gadgets. Me and my friend are both nerds so the first part we went to was the gaming section. Were both huge fans of the Super Smash Bros. series and so we were immediately attracted to the shelf with the copy of Super Smash Bros. melee on it, luring me in with its glory and brutal cover in such amazing condition that one could not turn it down. I had enough money for it so I went straight to the counter to purchase it and I gave in the exact money for it (I only had £1 and a bit left after purchasing it) so I was very glad that I could still afford it. When I left the queue to show my friend my amazing discovery I opened the box so we could both gaze upon it when he pointed out the fact that the game wasn't there. Instead of smash, there was the rare Zelda Collectors edition game which had somehow gotten mixed with the smash game, so I went over to the till to get a refund. This was all because my mind was set on melee, but for some reason I didn't realise that this game was worth far more. So after standing for about 10 more minutes in queue I finally got to the front where the workers spent yet again another 10 minutes figuring out what happened and they said I could either get a refund or buy the actually Zelda game (they announced they didn't actually have Smash) so I decided to get the full game. They asked for £25 and I handed over the remainders of my money. I was under. By £1. I didn't have time to ask my friend for money as he was pondering around upstairs, so I had to sorrowfully walk away with my money in hand, walking away in depression due to the fact that I could have gotten one of the rarest Zelda games out there, all thanks to my kindness.

Join IBM's Oliver Rodriguez as he demonstrates how to send data to the cloud with an IoT device using IBM's Internet of Things Foundation service on Bluemix. A simple Node-RED application will then receive this data and store it in IBM's Cloudant NoSQL Database. TIFU by not having a mattress to sleep on
I'm the kind that get easily turned on. It was a recent thing that I discovered I can squirt impressively. I'm in a relationship w this guy where we just recently gotten intimate w each other.
The first time he made me came buckets it was on my bed. I practically soaked the mattress. Took me a day to get the smell off and to air out the thick mattress. Told him to be mindful about making me come on the bed again.
But last night was impromptu, he came over after dinner wanting to do some stuffs on his gadgets (that's w me). Then we started fooling around. He made me come buckets again on my bed. When he left I was just too tired to clean up everything so I slept on the floor w my cats. This morning I wake up to the mattress smelling like I've been up at it all night long. Tried getting the smell off and air the mattress but it didn't work.
I'm pissed because tonight I'll probably have to sleep on the floor again because mattress still reeks of my cum whatever.
My bf however think this is funny. According to him having me come so hard like that is hot but I now have no mattress to sleep on. I demand for him to get me a new mattress or he has to come over and clean it up for me.
tl:dr : my bf made me come buckets. I had to sleep on the floor because the mattress is soaking wet and smells of too much sex.
Sorry if this inappropriate I just want to rant because sleeping on the floor sucks

TIFU by forgetting my phone was connected to the stores Bluetooth speakers...
This is my brand new job and I've been there less than a week. I am a retail consultant for a major cellphone provider and obviously being a place where you come in to buy a cellphone we also sell products and gadgets to connect to your phone. One of these new products that we've sold quite a few of is basically a Bluetooth speaker.
Now to help in the aiding of showing off this product we will connect our personal phones to it and play music for the customer and crank it up. When we are done generally we just pause the music. Well that's where I fucked up.
During my break I didn't leave work and I was making an offering to the Porcelain God. During my offering I was scrolling through Facebook and ran across some Drake "Hotline Bling" videos and started watching them.
The first one happened to be a Darude "Sandstorm" one and while I was watching it the sound isn't working so I am sitting there messing with volume buttons and pausing and restarting the video. I figured maybe for some stupid reason there's no sound with that one so I move onto the Law & Order one. Well there's no sound with that one either even with me messing with the volume buttons again so I finished my offering and hand washing and went back onto the floor.
I am greeted by my boss, coworkers, and customers laughing at me. I beyond confused and my boss starts asking if I was playing "Sandstorm" and the Law & Order theme song on my phone. Well it all clicks at that point and of course I am visibly embarrassed which of course makes everyone laugh even harder.
I spent the rest of the day and night paranoid to play anything on my phone and turned off Bluetooth completely when I wasn't showing a customer the speaker. I'll probably get shit from my boss and coworkers for a long time from this.

Twitter has ALLEGEDLY begun censoring content and is hiding posts based on geography
So someone noticed that his attached pic of one of the pages of the leaked drone documents was unviewable in the US, but worked fine elsewhere. See his write-up here. Now others are coming forth and sharing similar stories with the hashtag #ItsOver. For it's part, twitter is claiming it was a one-time server issue (which could be possible, especially if it's a replication issue) but people have responded to that by saying twitter's timeline of server issues doesn't lineup to reality of people's posts going missing.
If this is true, and I emphasize if as this is currently unverified this would be a pretty major move on Twitter's part. I posted this here because I know some tech journalists read /r/technology and hopefully this gets some visibility so we can get some clarity on this. Self-post because it's unverified.

The Senate lost hundreds of thousands of faxes from citizens against CISA (proof)
This week, the Senate is expected to vote on CISA, a controversial cybersecurity bill, without having seen hundreds of faxes from concerned citizens urging them to vote against this legislation. The faxes were sent via the http://ift.tt/1gmRKa6 campaign, which criticized CISA as a mass surveillance bill in disguise. Unfortunately, once received by the Senate’s fax system, the majority of these faxes were lost or deleted, without ever reaching the offices of the senators.
This is not ok. We don't care why or how, but the Senate must hear from their constituents if they are trying to communicate with them. That's their job and they should admit they failed to do so.
Full disclosure: I’m Jeff Lyon, CTO at Fight for the Future and the architect of the faxing system we used to send these faxes. I’ll explain how we built the system, and how, with the help of a couple of friendly senators, we proved that the faxes were lost from the Senate’s system.
-
We built a server capable of blanketing the Senate with faxes (pic) Powered by 12 US Robotics faxmodems, 12 dedicated phone lines, and running out of my attic, this allowed us to send 20,000 faxes every day to the U.S. Senate
-
Over 6 million faxes were generated by concerned citizens on http://ift.tt/1gmRKa6 We didn’t expect such a mind blowing number, but we were sending them as fast as we could. We delivered over 400,000 of these faxes in August, and the system appeared to be working beautifully.
-
In September, we heard from Senator Ron Wyden’s office that they weren’t receiving our faxes. We took the fax system offline to do some testing. Wyden’s office confirmed receiving only 743 of the 6,220 faxes we sent to them.
-
We reached out to the Office of the Sergeant at Arms (SAA) to get more information about the problem The Sergeant at Arms is responsible for Senate operations, including the telecommunication systems the Senate uses for receiving faxes. We explained the problem via phone and email, in the hopes that they could locate the missing faxes.
-
Weeks later, SAA replied that they weren’t getting our faxes and not blocking them (screenshot of email) This is when we knew something had gone very wrong. We know the faxes were sent. I had been monitoring the performance of the faxing system throughout its operation, keeping an eye as the faxes were sent in realtime. It’s kind of hard to ignore the screeching of dialup faxmodems, and modems don’t screech unless there’s another modem on the other end receiving data. I decided to ask my phone company for a detailed statement of our phone call history.
-
In early October, I finally received an 860 page phone bill showing all our calls in August (pic | another pic) The phone company initially sent a bill without our full call history, and it took weeks to get them to send me the full record. This showed hundreds of thousands of calls placed from the same 612 area code phone lines that the SAA claimed to have never received. To clarify, 11 out of 12 of our phone lines were 612 area code. These call records would not exist if the Senate fax lines didn’t pick up our calls and receive data.
So why did this happen?
Right now, it doesn’t really matter why this happened. Something went wrong in the Senate’s faxing system, and whether it was a glitch, or something done on purpose to try to stop our faxes from going through, the end result is the same. The Senate was unable to consider timely communications from thousands of constituents, urging them to vote against CISA, a bill they’re debating right now.
And disappointingly, we may never know the truth. Since the Senate is exempt from Freedom of Information Act requests, we’ll never be able to look through their records to see what really happened.
If Congress proceeds to a vote on CISA without considering the wishes of their constituents, our democracy has failed. Please help spread the word and call on Congress to acknowledge this problem before it’s too late.
